Birmingham Commonwealth Games | Handover 2018

CONTEXT

Production & Installation of various large scale outdoor signage & display graphics for the handover event outside the Birmingham City Council House.

THE PROJECT

During the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony on Australia’s Gold Coast in 2018, the symbolic flag of the Games was passed to the City of Birmingham Lord Mayor Anne Underwood and a huge party erupted back home in Victoria Square, Birmingham.  Organisers wanted the event to show off Birmingham’s “youth, diversity and talent”.  To accompany the party atmosphere, the Council had commissioned colourful banners, signage and display graphics.  The event was a huge success with up to 1 million people being either directly or indirectly involved in the event.  John E Wright hopes to further help with the main event in 2022 and wishes the organisers all the best for what is bound to be a challenging event to organise.
