Having recently invested in a Next-gen UVgel printer; the Canon Colorado 1650 – we were quick to learn and take advantage of its double-sided printing capabilities. We pride ourselves on being the ‘go to’ company for city dressing and large format projects and because we produce a vast amount of lamppost banners in-house for local Councils and Universities, we needed to streamline this process to be more efficient.
A new addition to an already impressive set up
We currently use both our 3.2m EFI Vutek H5 and GS3250 hybrid printers to produce our double-sided lamppost banners on Soyang’s 700gsm Blockout banner, but even though they are quick and get the job done, they still require a bit of manual intervention to make sure they back-to-back correctly. With the Canon Colorado 1650, this eliminates the manual intervention with their clever automatic roll feed and alignment feature. Our operators simply set a roll printing and once one side has printed, we feedback back through the second side which allows the operators to continue working on other tasks, leaving the printer unmanned.
A revolution in ink technology
The flexible UVgel inks also support a broad range of media’s making it the perfect choice for our lamppost banner campaigns. Lamppost banners are often in open areas where high winds are constantly impacting them, so having the flexibility of the inks are key for us, even from a textiles point of view – they constantly are being folded, bent and handled prior to being stitched.
Continual improvement
As a group, we strive for continual improvement in apparatus, personnel and facilities. With our partners at CMYUK we have now installed the Canon Colorado 1650 across two sites; Hull and Nottingham Display, with the view, after a period of assessment, for further installations across the organisation.
Not only does the Canon Colorado 1650 help us to give our customers the best possible quality and service, the improved energy efficiency helps us reduce our carbon footprint.
