Currently on display at Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery is a curated exhibition by Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller.
In ‘All That is Solid Melts Into Air’ Deller explores the roots of working class musical culture, from 19th century industrial folk to glam and heavy rock music in the 70s and 80s. The exhibition combines contemporary works with a vast range of objects and images, from historical paintings depicting factories and forges to oppositional broadsheets, political tracts, poems and popular ballads against exploitation.
We have previously assisted the Castle Museum & Art Gallery with large information graphics and other display materials, but for this event the requirement was for a very large exhibition element utilizing one of the key images from the show. The main stair case in the venue stretches up a little over 7 meters from the middle landing and we were asked to produce a print to fill this space in its entirety.
With overall dimensions of 6.3 meters by 5.8 meters this imposing black & image was produced in 5 drops on a self-adhesive wall vinyl. This was installed by our team using scaffold towers to reach the ceiling height, matching up each section to produce a seamless finished piece. This was printed on our EFI VUTEk GS3250lx in Nottingham
The exhibition has been produced in conjunction with Hayward Touring and is open until 21st April.
