Thames Barrier.
Personal work. Shot from the top of an un-finished tower block on the Greenwich Peninsula development site while on commission for the Construction Industry Training Board.

“I have been shooting professionally since 1989, off and on, and have covered everything from rock concerts and weddings to crime scenes and castles, and have met hundreds of fascinating people in dozens of amazing places along the way.

I often tell people that I only photograph three things: “People, products and places: who you are, what you do and where you do it.” This doesn’t leave much out but, truth be known, my biggest thrill in photography is making a portrait of someone who thinks they’re “un-photogenic”, and seeing their face when they realise they’re not.

Rob Gee: poet, comedian. Commissioned portrait of the funniest man in Leicester.

I also shoot a lot of events and conferences. The coffee is usually terrible, but often the cakes are quite good!
My portrait work has appeared in The Independent and The Guardian.

My ‘places’ work includes shooting natural and industrial landscapes and residential, industrial and commercial interiors. It means I spend a lot of time up to my knees in mud, either up mountains or on construction sites. It’s always worth it.

Andrew Graves, the “Mullet-proof Poet”. Commissioned portrait of Nottingham’s own Mod God.

Product photography has led me to shoot for Next, Velobici and Shoe Zone, as well as for bespoke makers and designers across the midlands.

When I’m not shooting, I teach photography, run public engagement workshops and mentor college students in professional photographic skills.”

Paint Finishing, Mercian Cycles, Derby.

Shot as part of a documentary series on craft makers in the Midlands. Each bicycle Mercian make is built and finished by hand, one by one. No more than four people will have built, painted, finished and done the paperwork on every frame they make.
