But what exactly is foil printing? Also known as foil embossing or stamping, it is a digital foiling technique that applies a coloured and metallic foil finish to the top of your print item.
How foil embossing works
Digital foiling is part of the printing process, it involves adding a metallic colour to a printed surface using heat. This heat allows the foil to stick to the surface permanently and without the need for glue.
What colour foils are there
There is a huge range of colours available for foil printing, with pretty much every colour in the primary colour palette also on offer in a metallic or foiled option. Many customers are particularly interested in rose gold and copper at the moment which are both highly on-trend! As well as a wide range of colours, there is an option to have a matt finish or a shine finish, depending on the look that you want to achieve.
Why do customers love foil embossing
The resulting printed item will naturally look luxurious, eye-catching and extremely high-end. The foil can be used to flag up a name or to provide a design element, such as a floral or graphic pattern that sits above the design itself and blends with it to create interest and texture. The technique tends to be very popular with premium pieces, such as exclusive printed invites or graphic designs where the image is being kept simple and the impact is all in the layered finish. Metallic foil effects are particularly popular for wedding and corporate event invites, where exclusivity is all part of the look and feel!
