NAE Nottingham

New Art Exchange is a contemporary art gallery based in the Hyson Green area of Nottingham. Hosting exhibitions by local, national and international artists the gallery has a growing reputation and plays a central role in the cultural life of the city.

The current lead exhibition is a photographic.

Realism in Rawiya presents the work of the first all-female photographic collective to emerge from the Middle East, Rawiya. Operating within what is still a predominantly male-dominated industry, and one fraught with politics, the group credits pooling resources and talents for their rapidly developing profile throughout the Middle Eastern region and beyond. Following on from their success at FORMAT photography festival in 2011, this exhibition marks Rawiya’s first major group exhibition in the UK.”

More information can be found here in the exhibition guide.

In December while the exhibition was in planning we were approached to produce a number of the main photographic pieces being submitted from the artists in the Middle East. An additional aspect to the main framed images was the possibility of taking an image and producing photographic wallpaper. The intention being to reproduce two works by Lebanese artist Dalia Khamissy onto wall sections 2.7 meters heigh by 4 meters in width. Whilst we have previously produce work of this size for retail POS applications, the particular requirements for an artist application required further investigation.

Splitting the files in pre-press and providing working / application leeway the two images were produce in 4 sections, printed on a HPL26500 Latex device using HP PVC-Free Wallpaper. This pre pasted material produces a durable light fast and water resistant print that can be applied like any traditional wallpaper to a good clean substrate.

As NAE had constructed space specifically to accommodate the images, the overall effect in the exhibition space is stunning. The exhibition is open until the 20th April and is both visually engaging and highly relevant to current political situations in the Middle East and beyond.

We particularly value these types of working relationships with creative organisations as they allow us to stretch our technical capabilities which then feeds back into our day to day client inquiries. We welcome approaches for advice on both public and private projects.

The Realism in Rawiya exhibition is one of the first parts of the FORMAT13 Festival. John E Wright supported this prestigious event in 2011 and are pleased to be a part of the 2013 event.
